I became a pharmacist straight from high-school because of my love of Biology and Chemistry. Learning about how the body is put together and how it reacts to substances was always fascinating and how these affect our health was even more so. I finished in 1992 and started working as a Pharmacist. But I was left wondering why people got sick in the first place.
I was drawn to Naturopathy almost immediately after I qualified as a pharmacist. Learning Naturopathic philosophy and the vast knowledge of herbal and nutritional medicine, I have found many answersto why people get sick in the first place and tools to help people find their way back to better health.
With both of these qualifications - as a Pharmacist AND Naturopath, I am able to understand the conventional medical perspective that your GP may be working with but I have additional insight to alternatives that others might not see.

I love herbs!
I'm not sure where this love of herbs came from but I remember as a child experimenting with the sap from the onion weed plant. I also used a banana peel on the same problem (that one smelt a bit!). I am unsure where I even got these ideas from ... no internet back then. I also remember loving the "Clan of the Cave Bear" book series as a child (so much so that I have recently asked for them for my birthday). The central role was a female healer and I think I have just always wanted to help others to heal.
I studied pharmacy but was left with the question of "WHY?", why do people get sick in the first place? I then studied Naturopathy and found a lot of the answers that I was looking for. At this stage, I opened a Naturopathy business within a pharmacy that I was working at. Then kids came along!
Not wanting to stop studying and whilst the kids were young, I completed my breastfeeding counselling and training and assessing certificates. I worked as a volunteer with ABA for about 5 years. This was a time of juggling home, babies, children, further study and work.
During and since then, I am regularly updating and consolidating my knowledge with webinars, seminars, conferences, books and articles. I'm also part of various social media groups where practitioners troubleshoot interesting cases which is a constant source of education.
I basically just love to learn.
Now I have 4 kids of my own and I think some of them could say "echinacea" and "acidophilus" before the age of two. I use herbs with my family, I use herbs myself ... so yes, I use herbs with my patients. They are a treasure trove of nutrients and phytochemicals to help you get better.
As a Pharmacist, I am used to treating all manner of illnesses and people, a natural remedy is often available for all manner of complaints. As a Naturopath, I have some special interests - particularly women and mental health. But I just love sinking into a complex case too. That's where my catchphrase of "delve a little deeper" came from. I love to look at a person and see the patterns of their body and how I can apply my knowledge to help them to become a healthier version of themselves.
To me, my Naturopathy is not just a career, it is a hobby, it is a passion and it is a way of life.

I understand that chronic, long term health challenges can really take a toll on you. You may feel that you have tried everything and seen every type of practitioner.
Sometimes you just need fresh eyes to step back and look at your health as a whole and start to find where we can get traction and get you back onto a healthier path.
EVERY patient with chronic health challenges presents with a different picture and it is my job to delve a little deeper to the root causes and triggers.
You may not get back to your 20 year old self but I am confident that we can set you on a healthier path.
In the pharmacy, I see so many people put on anti-depressants, anti-anxiety, sleep medications with no other plan of action. THERE IS SO MUCH MORE!
We live in a stressful time where many people want a quick fix so perhaps this system suits them. However, much of the time, I see an escalation in medications as they just don't seem to be doing the trick.
There is so much more that can be done. Looking at the physiological (that's the chemistry of the human body) reasons that someone is this way in the first place and putting together strategies to more forward is something I just love to do.
Something that I have helped lots of patients to safely do. Always done with collaboration with the medical practitioner. Many people are stuck taking medication that they don't want to still be on but are unsure how to go about weaning, or have tried before and it hasn't worked.
It is a balancing act (hence this pic!) and sometimes you need to get healthier before you even think about it.
